5. A Protective Ozone Layer
The ozone layer must be replenished so as to provide long-term protection against harmful UV radiation.
The outcome within a generation for this environmental quality objective should include the following:
- Sweden will work to ensure that concentrations of chlorine, bromine and other ozone-depleting substances in the stratosphere do not exceed natural levels.
- The use of ozone-depleting substances in Sweden will be phased out within one generation.

The Environmental Objectives Council’s assessment is that the objective A Protective Ozone Layer can be achieved by 2020. The trend in the state of the environment is positive.
